Rated 2 out of 5 by Huge Disappointment... We have frequented Aloft properties previously and was expecting the same experience in your Aloft Winchester hotel. I tried to contact the Sales Manager at the Aloft in Winchester on 2 separate occasions and was never called back. I booked our room months in advance and requested a King bed. Upon check-in, they put us in a Double. We asked to be changed and was told they didn't have any King rooms available. We spoke to the manager and they were able to put us in a King room. The AC was not working that great and the bathroom sink would get clogged every first time that you turned it on but we stayed in the room as we had already switched once. We were there for a wedding. The bride and groom had prepared gift bags for the guests that were staying at the hotel. At the rehearsal dinner they asked if we received anything upon check-in. They had to call the hotel and remind them to deliver the gift bag which they delivered at 10 PM that evening. Additionally, there seemed to be little to no air conditioning in the common areas of the hotel. Upon check out we overheard another guest in tears complaining about the AC and that the business center desktops were not working. She advised them that she would have to leave and find another hotel. The one positive was that the bartender in the lobby bar was super nice and accommodating. August 17, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Needs Improvement I recently traveled north for a business meeting in central PA, and given where I needed to be and where I was coming from, I chose the Aloft Winchester so that I could keep it in the SPG family of hotels. I was here for two nights. Arrived around 6:30pm on a Monday evening. I had opted to use SPG Keyless for my stay for this trip, and unfortunately it had not activated by the time I arrived, necessitating a stop at the front desk. I love the idea of SPG Keyless, and have used it on other stays, but of the half-dozen or so times I’ve used the feature, only once has it checked me in and activated prior to my arrival. Usually I have to check in at the desk as normal and have them activate the mobile key. This isn’t a knock on this hotel, but an observation of SPG Keyless as a whole. I’m hopeful that the system can improve in the future. Aloft hotels tend to be fairly cookie-cutter in design, and this one is no different. Large, open lobby containing the front desk, a sundries enclave in the corner, pool table, and the WXYZ Bar, open nightly from 5pm-11pm. There are colorful lights, dance music playing, and news/stock tickers on the wall. They’re designed to be hip and inviting, and this design style is generally fairly suited for my tastes, which is one of the reasons I continue to choose Aloft. The rooms are also very similar: small, but adequate. They’re designed small to encourage guests to congregate in common areas of the hotel. I had a King room for this stay. The hotel has been open for about six years, but frankly, does not appear to have been particularly well kept in that period of time. As other reviews have mentioned, you don’t have to look far to find signs of disrepair here. Broken tiles in the elevator. Scuffing and scratches on the walls. Wires hanging out from behind the television in the room. My room also had a funny smell, like someone had smoked in the non-smoking room and the hotel had attempted to deodorize, but hadn’t quite gotten the job done. A prior guest smoking in the room isn’t the hotel’s fault, but I would hope that they would thoroughly deodorize and sanitize before placing another guest in that room. Road noise was also an issue in my room. The hotel is on a highway and adjacent to an interstate interchange, and there were a ton of large trucks that could be heard outside at all hours. The walls as a whole didn't seem to have much insulation in them to dampen the sound. The staff on the whole was friendly. Not above and beyond, but friendly and accommodating. I’d say that the issues here are less with the day-to-day staff, and more likely with management. Having stayed at eight or nine different Aloft properties around the country, I don’t believe that the physical property at Aloft Winchester is on par with the brand standards for this brand. I won’t write off a return to this property, but I’ll likely look elsewhere first. August 4, 2016

Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice hotel; pick up the trash My overall stay at the hotel was great. The friendly staff and prompt service was a plus. Very impressive bar and lounge area. The room was also with the exception of the room phone not working; slight delay with the room being cleans .Not being too far from the caverns made this a good choice of location to stay The downfall is the trash dumpsters outside; from arrival to departure they were overflowing with trash. It would be nice if the dumpsters could be moved to the back of the hotel. Also, the cigarette butts around the building should be swept up. I have found a new place to stay when visiting Winchester, Va. July 3, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Hotel needs improvement! I've earned gold status for life due to the amount of nights in Starwood - I also have gold status for life at another big chain. This many hotel nights give me some unique perspective(s) that not all travelers have. The hotel is need of some deep cleaning (grounds, garbage cans outside the hotel doors, interior floors, elevator floors, and the room floor. The front desk staff was pretty good in the am shift but the check in person wasn't customer focused and bordered on annoyed. The am cook was pleasant and helpful. The first thing you see when you pull into the parking lot is two dumpsters - not a good first impression - especially when they are overflowing. The perimeter of the hotel had cigarette butts everywhere, the cups were out of stock in the exercise room and the front desk staff wasn't able to quiet down the rowdy guests that kept us up until midnight due to noisy guests hanging out in front of our room. Rated 4 out of 5 by Unique decorating touches Everything was what you would expect of an upscale hotel except the quality of the food served. It appeared that the food we ordered had been a prepackaged and frozen item, that was warmed in a microwave to serve. The management should hang their heads in shame to charge regular prices for such low quality food. We did eat it, but would not do so again. April 25, 2016
