Rated 4 out of 5 by Carpet had a stain While the Aloft reservation agent and staff were very accomodating and made my stay easy, I was disappointed to find stains on the carpet in the room. I will stay at Aloft again, but I hope the group will do a better job at stain removal from the carpets. Sadly, this is not the first time I have stayed at an Aloft that had a carpet stain in the room. February 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fun and Functional The Aloft Harlem met all of our needs. We wanted to stay near Columbia University. The hotel was convenient in location to Columbia and to a metro station so we could quickly board the subway for quick trips to other areas of Manhattan. The staff was friendly and upbeat. The room was clean and comfortable. Will stay there again! June 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Luxury in Harlem Villiage Arrived to found a very upscale hotel in the middle of Harlem to my delight. Really great features all around. I was greeted warmly by staff and front desk. Rachel was friendly and professional, made the experience pleasant. I may have found a spot for my next visit to the area and I'm telling my friends to check it out as well. May 3, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Enjoyable stay Stayed here 3 nights for proximity to Columbia University - 10-15 minute walk. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. Compact room which met our needs adequately Endless coffee and tea in reception area AC was a bit noisy as was the street noise so recommend asking for a quieter room at check-in Would stay here again. Rated 4 out of 5 by I would stay again Hotel was good. Room was clean. The air conditioning was not the best, but we were in a corner room and the sun was beating on the large front window all day. Couldn't get it below 74 degrees in the daytime. Besides that, great staff, and cool lounge area. Location is great if you need to stay way uptown in NYC. July 1, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great NYC Hotel Experience First-time visit to this hotel. Courteous and gracious staff. Nice facilities. Convenient location. Interesting neighborhood.Room for improvement: No bureau drawers to store clothing. No direct light in bathroom (you have to turn on room light to illuminate bathroom...not ideal when roommate is sleeping!) November 28, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lovely Hotel in Good Location Located close to relatives, this new and well priced hotel is a great addition to the bustling neighborhood. Rooms are compact but well appointed and comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a small grocery with some basics on the lobby level. A restaurant would be a great addition. Rated 3 out of 5 Unsatisfactory service During my stay I had the worst service ever !! I will never stay at the aloft Harlem again ...I was extremely disappointed when the staff threw away my merchandise I left behind a hour prior after my check out... My merchandise was extremely expensive and they showed no remorse June 30, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This hotel is a great value for NYC This is a great value.Clean comfortable rooms, and while small, efficient use of space so we did not feel "close." Twenty minutes from Times Square. Close to M 60 bus to airport. You can pay a lot more and get a lot less in NYC. September 6, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfortable and clean Check in was quick and efficient. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was ample, clean, comfortable. Hotel was in terrific location, easy access to subway, and if you're driving, there's a garage a block away to leave your car overnight. Coffee, tea and water are free in room. March 28, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Around the corner from the Apollo Theatre Great no frills hotel in Harlem around the corner from the famed Apollo Theatre. Comfortable and spacious room and youthful courteous staff. The is a parking lot in the same block and the rates great by New York standards. I will stay here again, the next time I'm in Harlem. Rated 2 out of 5 by I'm surprised it is part of spg It has no breakfast area. Business room doesn't exist, just a couple of old Macs and a printer. No recognition for long time spg members. The surroundings at night maintain the old characteristics of the old Harlem. For that price you might find better options further south. January 23, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Needs work Although the room was nice, the bed springs sqeaked when sat on. The quilt was a fiber quilt and all the chambers were just a bunch of balled up filling. It was very uncomfortable and should have been discarded long ago. When I asked about retrieving my car I was told they could take the time I need the car and have it there for me at that time. I asked for it to be there at 8:30AM. When I came down to leave I no one knew anything about it. They called and then told me it would be right there, they were driving around the neighborhood because there was no parking spaces out front. I went out to find that there was no one parked in any of the spaces. After 20 minutes i saw them pull out of the parking area and when they pulled up the car was still cold and covered in snow. I was late for an important meeting! Bad enough the car was not there as promised, being lied to just compounded my anger. I expect better service from SPG and this was no where close to my expectations. I doubt I will return or recommend this hotel. January 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Clean Modern Hotel We stayed two nights (Friday & Saturday Nights) and we fully enjoyed this hotel. Hotel was very clean - Rooms where comfortable and location was perfect - 2 blocks from the train, shopping, and good food. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will be going back January 28, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by second time around this was our second time staying at ALoft Harlem and I must say the friendly staff is amazing. The property however is not as clean and neat in the common areas (i.e. elevator, lobby) as it was in November 2011. The room however was very comfortable and clean. November 4, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great people! Always wish we could remember names... Great staff. Got to hotel after 16 hour day. Met with smiles and great dinner recommendation. Smiles were there each day. Staff were not only friendly but interested. Would go back tomorrow...and I'm 5000 miles away. August 24, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Awesome stay I have to agree with other reviews. Very attractive, friendly and accomodating staff. Very cute, boutique style hotel. Very cozy. Perfect sized room. Location was ideal. An overall great stay and I cannot wait to return again. August 23, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Decent Room is clean, and the staff is efficient, but the room is a little bit small, and their lobby is located on the -1floor, but their is no elavator when you try to enter their lobby from outside of the hotel. June 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Hotel Great hotel located in Harlem. Easy access from Manhattan via subway. Found the service excellent and all staff went out of their way to be helpful. Only two blocks from the famous Sylvia's Restaurant, a must to visit. June 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Staff makes the difference Our stay was during the recent hurricane. The staff went out of their way to be supportive and accommidating during this stressful time. The location was great. The bed was wonderful. And again the staff was amazing. November 5, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very helpful staff Rooms modern, clean, comfortable, roomy. Good soundproofing. Great bed. Huge picture window looking over the city. 10 minute walk from Columbia Univ/Barnard College. Very helpful staff. Good free coffee in lobby, February 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great hotel at great price This hotel is clean, hip, and spacious for New York hotels. The price is right. Conveniently off of the ABCD train and a short walk to the 2,3. You can be in Columbus Circle in 10 minutes via the express trains. March 25, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Strong mildew smell ruined visit I wanted to like Aloft since it may be the only upscale hotel in Harlem. The problem is that it is not upscale; it lacks many of the amenities you might expect (i.e., door man, complimentary New York Times). The biggest problem, however, is that the rooms have a strong mildew smell in them. I stayed on two separate occasions and had the same problem. The windows don't open, so there is no way to get fresh air. When I complained to the front desk, they had the housekeeper spray air freshener with poorly masked the strong odor. I have no idea why a new hotel has this smell or why they chose to install windows that do not open at all. Another concern is that most of the rooms are quite small, which perhaps is to be expected in NYC. But when I asked the front desk for a complimentary upgrade to a larger room since I am a SPG Gold member, he replied that all the rooms are the same size and there are no upgrades (another odd feature for an upscale hotel). As it turned out, on my second stay, I received a significantly larger room, so he was lying. I would not return to this hotel. June 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great stay Highly recommended great staff and hotel features convenient for subway September 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Give everyone a raise! The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at Aloft Harlem was awesome. The food at the bar, grilled cheese and tomato soup, were the best I've tasted at a restaurant. Wow! Things were happening too. February 11, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Air Conditioning The only major problem was the AC and I'm not sure there is anything that can be done. The rooms are small as are all nyc hotel rooms and the AC is right on you and it was either freezing or warm. May 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by AMAZING SERVICE How often can you walk into a hotel in NYC and be greeted by name? The staff here are the best! We have stayed twice this year. Just booking the third and fourth time now. Love it! Thank you. September 21, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good location, great staff We stayed for 6 nights in March/13 and found the hotel to be clean and well located, about 2 blocks from the 125th Street subway line. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Recommended! March 29, 2013
