The 57-room Nakar Hotel is set in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, on one of the Balearic capital’s liveliest shopping streets, Avinguda Jaume III. As well as offering authentic “urban Majorquine” cuisine, a bar and restaurant on the eight floor, and a rooftop infinity pool and terrace, the hotel plays host to an indoor pool and spa that serves as a perfect respite after a day of luxury shopping in the surrounding neighborhood.
MADE BY ORIGINALS
After growing up immersed in his family business, which started in the 1930s with his grandfather’s leather factory, Toni Ramis studied at Barcelona University and then moved to London and Munich. Stepping into the hotel industry by working with Iberostar Hotels on projects in Tenerife and Lloret de Mar, Ramis ended up jumping at the opportunity to take over a building built by his grandfather in the 1960s. On Mallorca’s premier shopping street, Avinguda Jaume III, Ramis created Nakar Hotel to introduce the island’s offerings to guests from all around the world.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
In reanimating the 1950s-built Pension Nacar building, Mallorcan architect Magi Marqués wanted to do more than just recreate the architectural style that was prevalent during the era—so a rooftop pool and soundproof rooms were added for a luxurious, exclusive edge. Inside, Mallorcan designer Marga Rotger orchestrated elegant, minimalistic spaces with indirect lighting, neutral colors, simple shapes, and materials such as oak wood for floors, natural stone, and black lacquered iron.
