Lying between the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers, and dating back over 2,000 years, Heifei is the capital of Anhui Province. The Four Points by Sheraton Hefei, Baohe is conveniently located in Baohe Industry Park, at the crossing of Dalian and Beijing Roads. Retail shops are just steps away. The Central Business District (CBD) is 20 minutes away by car, and Hefei Luogang International Airport (HFE) is only a five-minute drive from the hotel.
Explore Hefei’s prettiest park, Baohe Gongyuan. Surrounded by willow trees and lily ponds, visitors can take a leisurely stroll over the arched bridge that passes over a tranquil lake. This park is also home to Lord Bao’s Tomb, built in 1066. Called Bao Gong Myuan, the tomb commemorates Northern Song Dynasty government official Bao Zheng, a symbol of justice and integrity, and one of China’s most iconic figures. Xiaoyaojin Park, also known as Leisure Fort Park, is Hefei’s largest, as well as the site where the historical Battle of Hefei took place. Admire more than 2,000 animals including giant pandas, Indian elephants, Siberian tigers, leopards, and red-crowned cranes at the Hefei Wildlife Park. More natural wonders can be found at Chaohu Lake, one of China’s five largest freshwater lakes. Its top attractions are Laoshan Island, Zhongmiao Temple, hot springs (Bantang, Tang Pool, and Fragrant Spring), national forests, and water-eroded caves.
Visit the Anhui Provincial Museum and view its bronze exhibit, Huizhou-style architecture, and Han tomb engravings. Other history can be found at the pedestrian street Shangye Buxing Jie. A highlight there is Li Hongzhang Guju, once the home of the Qing Dynasty’s military leader Li Hongzhang. Also noteworthy is the ancient Buddhist Mingjiao Temple.
Sample some local cuisine. Hefei’s delicacies include Luzhou roasted duck, Lord Bao fish, caocao chicken, Li Hongzhang hodgepodge cuisine, honggao (baked cake), mabing (sesame cakes), baiqie (white sesame slices), and cunjin (sesame biscuits). For a taste of the arts, attend a vivid Lu Opera performance.
