Situated near the mouth of the Yangtze River on China’s central-eastern coast, Le Méridien Shanghai, Jiading offers a dynamic perspective. Overlooking the river and the city, our stylish hotel is located in one of Shanghai’s fastest-growing districts, at the intersection of Hezuo Road and Yining Road. The Chinese Grand Prix is held every year in Jiading at the Shanghai International Circuit. When completed, China’s second Disney theme park will be just an hour’s drive away. Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is 75 kilometres away, and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) can be reached by car in 35 minutes.
Once a water town, Jiading boasts historic buildings, pagodas, classic gardens, and one of China’s best-preserved Confucian temples. Breathtaking views can be appreciated at the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Asia’s tallest TV tower and the third-highest in the world. Inspiring panoramas can also be found on the 100th-floor observation deck of the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC), one of the world’s tallest buildings. In The Bund district, which has symbolised the city since the 1920s, a stroll along the waterfront allows one to marvel at the sprawling skyline.
More history awaits at the China National Museum at the Shanghai World Expo. Divided into two parts, it fully embodies China’s culture and history. The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum offers a unique experience under its “Nature, People, and Science” theme, and the Shanghai Museum contains ancient Chinese art and 120,000 precious relics. The storied pedestrian street of Xintiandi is lined with renovated old stone gatehouses called shikumen, and the historic and fashionable French Concession and the artsy area of Tianzifang are equally stimulating.
Savour some of Shanghai’s world-famous soup dumplings on Jiading’s Nanxiang Old Street. Called xiao long bao, they traditionally have 18 folds and are filled with pork, seafood, or vegetables. Meanwhile, in June through November, visitors can pick grapes, sample wines, and enjoy other activities at Jiading’s Malu Grape Theme Park.
