Harmonious Surroundings

The art of feng shui—the Chinese practice of creating harmonious surroundings that enhance the balance of yin and yang—served as the guiding inspiration for the design of the resort. According to its principles, a favoured piece of land should face the ocean, be surrounded by mountains from behind, should have rich underground water resources, and enjoy lush vegetation. Accordingly, the resort faces the Gulf of Thailand, enjoys a backdrop of mountains, and was lushly landscaped to preserve the natural water supply and create a balance between the natural and the manmade.

Upon arrival at the resort, the octagon-shaped Porte Cochère evokes the yin and yang symbol and serves as a screen that blocks out negative elements such as stress, worry, and even illness. As guests proceed through this artfully conceived gate, they leave their cares behind and are able to enter the resort in a perfect state of neutrality—open to having their mind and spirit brought into soothing balance.

One other element of note is the presence of water throughout the resort. According to feng shui, water represents money and wealth. Water reservoirs are often built to keep wealth within, yet flowing water is preferred as it represents the natural ebb and flow of money in our businesses and in our lives. Consequently, the element of flowing water is seen often from the main walkway with its waterfall walls to the pond in the lobby. Even the guest room pools and the main public pool are designed with a continuous flow of water over their respective infinity edges.
