My stay at the Westin Grand Central was great in every respect. The hotel gave me a complementary room upgrade, which was a terrific surprise at check-in. The staff was great during my stay and the bar/restaurant was very convenient.
I'd recommend this hotel to any NYC traveler. It was easy to get to, and it's location made getting around NYC very easy.

Least impressive Westin we've ever stayed at. Every single staff member we interacted with seemed like they were bothered to serve guests. ie: concierge that just pointed to the front desk when asked a question, then back to chatting with another staff member...the front desk person who motions you to wait a la a comedy sketch, even though no one else is in line. Rude and haughty attitude. Maybe we just came on a bad night. Should there ever be a bad night at a Westin?

When we arrived at the hotel, our room wasn't ready. We were offered a more basic room than what I had booked. We chose to wait until our room was ready. When we returned to the hotel and got our keys, we went to "our" room only to open the door on people who were already in that room. We had to go back to the lobby and get a room assignment. If someone walked in on my room, I would have been appalled. Errors like this are completely disturbing. Secondly, on the day we were to check out, we wanted the hotel to store our bags. There was a line that never ended. We had a brunch reservation so we were forced to carry our bags to the restaurant and lug them around all day until it was time for us to go. Poor service in general

This hotel is beautiful, clean, and great location to all Manhattan attractions and sites. The only negative thing I was surprised to find out is how unhelpful, and unfriendly the staff was. Had to call 3 times for a bellman. He eventually came after we managed to carry everything ourselves down to the lobby. When I first arrived the bellman did not help remove bags from my car instead he stood around while my friend and I unloaded the car onto the cart. I would have expected much more from a Westin hotel staff. Hopefully when I return the service more than meets my expectations.

Hotel had been the NY Helmsley. Westin took it over and renovated the building seemingly top to bottom. I am critical, however, I really can't come up with a thing that needed improvement. The location is fabulous. Two minute walk to Grand Central. $8 cab ride to Times Square. Room was spacious and well appointed. Shower awesome. Good fixtures and water pressure. I don't know why people were complaining about the noise level in the rooms. I thought the noise level was fine. The front desk people were all nice and attentive. In short, I'd stay here again anytime.

Westin 42nd & Third has all the services and amenities one would expect from a hotel. The location is close to many of the city transportation hubs. A good clean quiet environment is important to me. i would recommend for business or pleasure to my colleagues and friends.

The location is very convenient, and the overall facility is quite nice. The lobby feels a little cramped for a hotel of its size, but that's not really an issue unless you're trying to move through during busy check-in/out times.
The rooms feel extremely new and clean, and are actually quite large compared to other hotels I've stayed at in Manhattan (although it's possible I had an upgraded room, I don't believe so).
The front desk didn't say anything about my Gold status, or ask about my amenity (although I did get a 250 point bonus).
The restaurant was overall good (although a burger I ordered to be medium was actually pretty rare in the middle and so I didn't finish it). The beer on tap wasn't working when I ordered at the bar, and the bartender fiddling with it actually sprayed beer on my iPad, but I know it was an accident and it was not damaged so I didn't make a big deal out of it.
Overall, good hotel and I'll probably stay there again when I have business in midtown.

My recent stay at the Westin Grand Central created a number of both positive and negative impressions. On the positive side:
- the room was quiet
- the bed was comfortable
- the restaurant attached to the hotel was good
- the staff was helpful
On the negative side:
- the room was not completely clean, there were crumbs under the glass of the snack display, some sort of pumice was sprinkled over the sink counter in the bathroom, and the lampshade near the chair had coffee stains. Moreover, the remake of the bed for my second night was sloppy.
- SPG has, it appears, deleted all my old points. Granted I have not stayed at an SPG property in a while, but I did have quite a few points.
I would try the hotel again if I ever need to be in mid-town on the east side. I liked it better than 6 Columbus over on the west side of mid-town. But the room really could be cleaner and better maintained.

For Starwood members who have stayed in many Westin hotel you know how they can be hit or miss. Well this one is a Hit for sure. Recently renovated, great rooms, great restaurant and bar. If you are looking for a upscale propety in NYC and not pay an upscale price this is the place.

From the moment I stepped foot inside the hotel, i received exceptional service. Check in is at 3pm, but Lilly was kind enough to check us in at 10:30am, in an upgraded room with a beautiful view of the Empire State building. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Room service was great, our orders arrived within 15 minutes each time we called. The concierge was very kind and professional, and helped us make a few reservations. All in all, i highly recommend this hotel and its staff. Will for sure be back next year for Christmas.

I had stayed at this hotel for one night. Had paid the full amount at the time of reservation. They asked for my credit card at the time of check in. I checked out in the morning without breakfast or use of any other facility and no one told me that I am being charged for anything. Later when I reached back home and checked my credit card account, it was charged for 60 dollars without any reason.

The first night we got back to the room to find out that the cleaning crew had not been there so we called housekeeping to send someone up. The second day I called housekeeping before leaving the room and told them to send someone up because I did not want to come back to an undone room again but when we got back later that evening-dead tired-the room was not done yet again.
I called the management and complained about the situation. They apologized and said someone would come up right away...we waited another hour. Called again and waited some more..
Absolutely ridiculous and disappointing!

I stayed in this hotel on 10/19/12, 2 weeks after it opened post-renovation. The valet parking was excellent, and the hotel was great overall. However, I don't think every square inch was recently renovated. The bathroom in my room looked to be a few years old. Not really a big deal but felt I should mention.

The least friendly SPG property that I've ever stayed at. Front Desk staff did not offer a welcome or a smile upon check-in. Front Desk did not even acknowledge my SPG membership. Front Desk Management was just as unfriendly and uncaring. Hotel operator took for ever to answer calls, were rude and were not courteous. Hotel Restaurant and Bar was closed with no reason provided. On Property restaurant (Leona's) after being seated at the bar, I was told that I had to leave due to a private function. Unfortunately, there is nothing Grand about this hotel. Not the level of quality service you'd expect from a Westin hotel.
Pros: very few. Great location; obviously very near Grand Central Station. The Hotel Gym is great with great equipment.
Cons: Consistently very poor and unfriendly service; lack of attention by Front Desk Management who was very condescending and arrogant.

check in was backed up at # pm, but the staff did an excellent job of moving everyone through efficiently. As a SPG member we were asked if we wanted a late check out. all at the hotel was great. At the bar, we were "tossed" a drink menu at the bar and immediately left after being treated so rudely.

We have stayed at your hotel many times and have always had a positive experience. Over this past Thanksgiving week and weekend, we received service from your staff that was above and beyond what we would expect. Despite the busy holiday season, Sandra and the rest of the concierge staff assisted us in locating a place for our family photo shoot within the facility. We had only one hour on one day when everyone would be together from out of town.
Belco at the front desk greeted us by name each evening and engaged us in warm conversation about our day. She made us feel like we were part of the family. The staff in the LCL also went out of their way to provide a very positive experience.
Your staff deserves recognition and thanks for their excellent customer service during the busy holiday season.

This was my first stay at this hotel. For the past 15 years I have been staying at the Sheraton Times Square. As a lifetime 100 night per year platinum member I found the level of recognition had severely decreased there, so I tried another SPG property and I am extremely happy I did! From the moment I checked in with Alexandrea I realized this Hotel is going to be my new choice when traveling to NYC. The Hotel is in excellent condition. The public areas are outstanding. The room was in excellent condition. What stood out the most was the level of customer service. I truly felt they cared about the experience I was going to have. The only thing I regret about my stay was, it was only one night. I have already rebooked my future stays for this hotel versus the Sheraton. Alexandrea and Chris in the front office should be commended for their OUTSTANDING customer service. I am looking forward to my next stay.

When I think of home, I always think about and stay at The Westin, a home away from home. As I enter the lobby, I am greeted by the familiar smell of Westin's signature scent of White Tea Aloe.
The lobby is super clean and sleek. Kudos to the mixologist at the LCL Bar & Kitchen. Well done.

The hotel staff is amazing. We have a 2 year old daughter and all the staff at the hotel was friendly to her, giving her toys and coloring books, trying to make her laugh, etc. The room was excellent, they brought us a complimentary crib and a fridge for our milk and baby food. I'll definitely be coming back here again.

If you have the chance, you MUST ask to be checked in by Alfonso, in my view as a platinum member, possibly the world's worst reservation staff I have ever met. Then you should meet the bell boys loitering around the lobby. Gave me such a creepy feeling as if I was in an unsafe place. I'm staying here just for one nite. If anything happens to me at least this review is out there. Scary people.

Hotel beds were extremely comfortable. Manager of the hotel Mariah was very hospitable and warm. Hotel is not as clean as I would expect. Bathrooms were poorly cleaned even after second requests. There was a very sweet housekeeping lady that came one time at night to clean who was wonderful (i think she was from Haiti).

I left a personal item in my room and called just several hours later. First it took forever just to reach the front desk, phone just kept ringing and ringing. Security nor front desk was proactive in helping, needless to say I never was able to retrieve the item.
Overall, impersonal experience and mediocre amenities for Westin.

Prior to checking of the hotel, I called down to the valet service to have my car ready. Somewhere in between calling and actually checking out, I missplaced my valet ticket. I advised the person performing my check out that I didnt have the valet ticket. He told me that I needed to go outside and speak with the parking personnel at the door. I go directly to this person with all of my luggage and to notify him. He told me that I needed to speak with the folks at the front desk. At this point its freezing cold ouside and notify the parking personnell that I was told to ask him. He said to me "what do I want him to do" he then said that I needed to go to the parking garage on my own and find my car. Basically the hotel staff and the valet service provided NO help to me. I had to walk with all of my luggage around the builing to the parking garage and locate my car on my own. Even thought I paid for valet service. I was surprised by the poor service and unfriendly staff.

This hotel was very clean; rooms were updated very well; the beds and linens were especially good. Staff was excellent from front desk, bell, etc. All very good. Excellent job Westin.

My husband and I stayed 6 nights at the hotel and had a great stay. The room was clean and large by NY standards. The staff couldn't have been nicer. The only problem was the rain but not to worry the hotel provided umbrellas, nice touch! We will definitely go back.
