Rated 3 out of 5 by DSY72 Average, but below expectations
For being a resort and higher-end hotel, I found that the Westin Kierland was average at best. The room was okay, but nothing special. The bathroom was in poor condition, with wallpaper peeling away from the wall in several places and an electrical outlet near the sink ws pulling away from the wall as well. I notified the staff and they took note of it, but nothing was done. Also, there were room service trays with dirty dishes left outside of rroms for over 24 hours - unclean and unsanitary!
I was staying at the hotel for a large conference and the upholstery on the charirs in the conference rooms was literally falling apart.
The staff was friendly, but the hotel itself does need some updating.

My husband and I spent four nights here over Thanksgiving and everything was top notch. The Thanksgiving Buffet itself was opulent and tasty. My husband loved the golf course, I used the Westin Workout and walked to the shops next door to the hotel. The holiday light show was a real treat for kids AND adults! The staff is friendly and the hotel is clean and beautiful. The Kierland is a good choice for both couples and families.

Rated 3 out of 5 by EyeT4Me Great - except for the spa
The hotel was clean and had many spacious areas for meeting and relaxing, with beautiful views. The room was kept very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. There was a lovely terrace from which every evening guests could enjoy live bagpipe music as the sun set over the mountains. Unfortunately, the spa was not of the same caliber. I wish I hadn't visited the spa while there as it marred my opinion of this hotel. The employees in the spa were loud and very talkative - there were no hushed voices as is generally the norm, but lots of loud conversation about their hairstyles and personal lives, even in the 'relaxation room'. To add to this, the spa could use a good cleaning, particularly the shower and hot tub areas.

Room had a very loud A/C which dripped water onto the carpet (leaving a large wet spot), called to have an engineer fix the issue which they did but was an inconvenience. Our room had a kitchenette that had ants coming in from the wall. Hotel had lots of construction that prevented quick access to our room, had to walk very long distances in the heat to get to all hotel areas. Had to remind front check in about the details of my room package. Room service order was missing specifically ordered items. Could have been a bad day for this hotel, but i expected much more from an upgraded room (the casita)

We LOVED the hotel but were very disappointed about the wave pool not being open yet. We stay at this location every time we are in Scottsdale! We had planned a "last weekend" vacation for our 3 kids before the school year started. They were all excited about the new pool addition & we chose Scottsdale over going to San Diego because of this. However, after we got there the new amenity was not even close to being completed! The pool area is great but not enough for our 9 & 13 year old boys. They were so excited for the wave/surf pool & we were really let down on our last summer weekend as a family!

My husband and I are Westin members. We love Westin and stay at Westin whenever we travel. This was my first experience at this resort. While the resort seems incredible, my room was not. I was placed next to an elevator that kept me up all night long. In addition, the cable went out. The $400 I spent was not at all worth the lack of sleep and comfort i endured. I tried to convey this to the staff and was directed to a manager who is out of the country. We will see how things are handled.

Outside of the LOVELY staff at Edie's, the rest of the hotel staff was really flippant and arrogant. Anytime we needed help, we were pretty much brushed off. It was really disappointing. When we raised an issue, the lack of concern was disrespectful. For the price you pay to stay here, I'd stay somewhere where when I raise an issue I'm listened to. I'm not a complainer, but am a SPG member and it was like "oh well!" about everything. No apologies, no assistant, NADA! Not really happy about that. I'd stay here again, but honestly, the staff need some SERIOUS customer service training.

Rated 1 out of 5 by SPCC Customer Service Lacking in a BIG WAY
Stayed here for 5 nights over Thanksgiving. First night we were put in a lackluster room with mold in shower, refrigerator loud noise all night. Asked to be moved and was moved to the SPG floor where we should have been in the first place. Had to fight for the move. Lady at the front desk basically said we were welcome to leave the hotel. Even the new room was not anything like the Westins that we are accustomed to. Booked an add'l room for 3 nights as more family was in. Had it not been that the Phoenican was under construction, would have moved in a nano second. Asked for front desk to call me when second room was ready. They never did. Asked for a 4 pm checkout as we are Gold SPG. That was also declined. Staff seemed overwhelmed. They had a huge conference there and didn't seem to care about anybody else..staff just kept saying they were sold out. Yet, ironically, they were so understaffed that people had to wait in lines for check in/check out, baggage, etc. We were also locked out of our room a couple of times when they changed the key. Oh yeah, and on website it goes on about pet friendly and how you are given a pet package when you check in. They didn't give us one at checkin so I asked, only to be told they didn't have anymore. Honestly, this is the first review I have ever written. We have stayed close to 50 nights of hotels in the last several years. Every one I would recommend - EXCEPT this one. Would NOT recommend or ever go back. The location is pretty and convenient to the shopping area, however, for the price, the rooms at a motel would be equal.

Staff was amazing, everyone we made contact with; from the valet, pool waiter, brunch staff, room service, front desk, everyone! Both pools were clean and well staffed, rooms were clean and perfect room temperature.
Hotel was perfect for a getaway and is walking distance to excellent shopping and dining (if you want to venture out of the hotel-but you may not want to since the premises are so beautiful and comfortable).
Would highly recommend for family vaca, girls getaway, or couples retreat. Meeting facilities looked nice too if considering convention space.
Will definitely go back again!

This is the second time in a row we came to this resort. The staff, the facilities are amazing. Were from canada (maple, ontario) My only problem was it took us 24 hrs to get to westin kieland resort including driving 7 hrs from L.A. We told the registration person there about our ordeal and he gave us a corner room with a half view of the golf course. I'm a SPG member, took us 24hrs to get to your facility with 2 kids and we get a corner room? Sir to me that's a slap in the face. I feel I should get compisated in some way. My family said they want to come back there. Thank you.

I come to the Westin Kierlands 3 ot 4 times a year. It has always been one of my favorites. This time, the room was nice, as always, but the food in the grill and the main restraunt was TERRIBLE. I played three rounds of golf. The golf staff is always very good, but during one round, one of the people I was playing with was complaining about the Spa. I thought, that was strange. The Spa has always been very good. I had a treatment scheduled, so I thought I would see for myself. IT WAS TERRIBLE. The treatment itself was the worst I have ever had and I when I reviewedmy bit when I got home, I was totally overcharged. This is not at all what I have come to expect from what used to be one of my favorite resorts in the country.

This was my first stay at the Westin Kierland and everything was great the rooms, food, staff but my problem arose when I checked out. I went home and checked my statement and the resort was running a special 20% off all restaurants and shopping at the resort. When I looked at my bill they never gave me the 20% off. I called the resort and got the cold shoulder so I had to call Starwood corporate accounts and file a complaint. This was time I shouldnt have had to waste the resort should have been able to fix this on my first phone call but I was told the manager was to busy.

Also I took clients out on Saturday to play golf. What is going on with the back nine we played. the fairway bunkers were concrete and the course was very untidy. We joked about it with some of the Dolphins players that we were playing with. You realy need to tka ecare of the details.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Love2Travl just mediocre -- compared to the competitive resort market in Scottsdale
Concierge mostly inaccessible, and much more interested in selling villas than knowledgeable about local activities and restaurants. Overall, staff was not well-trained, though they were very friendly. No newspapers are delivered to the rooms, even for SPG elite members. the shower drain was very, very slow. Housekeeping unreliable. We had to request "turn down" service every day, if we wanted it (turn-down should be routine in a first-rate hotel or resort). The shuttle service to nearby restaurants and shops was very convenient. Slow service at outside bar area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Schultzdad Golf Course - Starter
My "ONLY" negative comment is that the starter for our scramble golf tournament was rude and not very accommodating. Our scramble tournament was done in under 4.5 hours, extremely fast for a scramble. The includes the back nine, Mesquite course, being cart path only. Due to the cart path only, pace slowed down accordingly yet the starter complained to MANY groups that they were going too slow and was very rude.
Otheriwse the entire experience was winderful.

Service at Waltz and Weiser was terrible! We were ignored and not waited on ( at a table) . There was a big group in the bar that dominated all the servers.... We were told by those waiters they could not help us??? We literally had to grab someone by the arm and demand they take our order ....all we wanted was a draft beer,,, please can I have one "while I'm young" !! Told the concierge and all we got was excuses b/c the hotel was at capacity!! Also another big jolt was to see a lady sitting in a chair and barfing into a trash can in the lobby --- first thing we saw as we walked in ,,, no one was helping so I went and found someone with security to offer her assistance! Not what one wants to see that as a first impression in any hotel!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by AnnMarieS Everything was great except the food!
We went on our first family trip away from the family for Thanksgiving. We loved the hotel and the ambiance. We thought that the water in the river pool could have been warmer as it was chilly and the air was chilly, too. However, we were excited about the Thanksgiving dinner and the descriptions of the food sounded amazing, so we signed up for all 5 of us to enjoy the buffet extravaganza. We are in the restaurant business and our kids are avid eaters, too! Our 5 year old twins love shrimp and mashed potatoes. We found shrimp thrown under the table since they tried to hide them since they were watered down and flavorless. The mashed potatoes which are usually a hit anywhere with them, were inedible due to all the skin left on. They also love ham and cranberry jelly roll, both of which were nowhere to be found. My husband loves prime rib and thought it was over seasoned and he could not taste the meat. I love seafood and after trying one oyster, one clam and one mussel, all on the half shell, I asked the server to remove the remainder of my plate and tell the kitchen that there was something wrong with the seafood, that is tasted old and metallic. Our 3 year old really enjoyed the chocolate milk, but that was it! The pumpkin pie was a disappointment, as was the apple. Even the chocolate moose was overpowered with coffee. What should have been a simple traditional menu was too fancied up with spices and seasonings and a lack of basic vegetables (corn, carrots, beans). We are being critical because this is a holiday where people eat and the food was just a complete disappointment. Then to be charged $230 left us with a bitter taste in our mouths, so we went out for something to eat at a top Scottsdale restaurant for a quarter of the price and the children and we were able to eat and feel satisfied. In conclusion, we bought an explorer package to return to the Kierland, we will just make certain to dine outside the hotel complex when we return. And hopefully the pool water will be warmer!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Erikg Beautiful place, but had some issues
I was saying for one night for business. Needed internet, but it would not work...i had to be transferred to someone who after around 30 minutes finally put me on for the 4 hour plan...my morning couldve been more productive. In addition, turning on the shower resulted in seeing a standing pool of water show up almost immediately in the shower...so i jumped in the pool instead...which was also somewhat dirty, but I felt better than standing in 3" of standing water in the shower...
Its a beautiful place...just needs some work apparently...

Excellent location, a couple of questions I would have to the staff...
1) Staying at such a nice resort, seems odd that there is a Plunger located right next to the toilet...
2) Having a Casita Suite, I would at least expect to have some stock of kitchen type products and a microwave. I usually get a microwave when I stay in way less expensive and less "stature" type of hotel. Huge refrigerator and no means to reheat anything.

Our room, itself, was very nice. However, a family with a young baby was placed in the room next to us and from midnight until 1 or 2 a.m. we got to "share" in the experience of the loud, crying baby! Perhaps there could be a plan in place where families with children--especially very young children--stay in rooms next to each other. As we were leaving, we asked ourselves WHY we didn't request a new room, but we either forgot about our lack of sleep the during the day or, perhaps, hoped the baby and family would be gone the next day.

My family did a staycation here. Service was the best we have had compared to other resorts in the Valey. The only hiccup was that my wife and I arrived in seperate cars. I parked in self park and asked if the $27 daily parking fee could be waived for my wife. She is 8 months pregnant and I didnt want her to have to self park and have to walk. I spoke to the ataff who said then said the fee would be waived. I received my final bill today and the fee is stil there. Thats the only blemmish on an otherwise wonderful stay

Rated 3 out of 5 by Miketheirritated1 A bunch of little things add up
The Westin Kierland is a beautiful facility, but our stay was just ok. Little things added up to making our stay fall slightly below expectations. The remote in the room did not work, the pool was closed down the first day of our stay, and at checkout I had to ask for the $25 F/B credit that I was supposed to receive with my Summer Special. Business is obviously very good, because the hotel was very crowded. I could see returning possibly, but not during the summer. The staff in your coffee shop was excellent. Thanks.

We stayed one night on our way from Tucson to Sedona and although the hotel was full with 3 separate groups, we were treated as welcomed guests and did not feel as if the hotel was crowded.
Even though we are platinum Starwood guests we were surprised and pleased to be upgraded to a corner suite. What a beautiful space!
We loved to be able to walk to the shops and restaurants and enjoyed a glass of wine around the firepit as we listened to the bagpipes on the 18th green signal the end of the day. Bliss.
We will be back!

The front desk said do you want to go green?
Well i am environmentally conscious, so i said ya.
Know what that means:
No one went in my room for 4 days. No sheets, no towels, no coffee refills etc. After 3 days, I thought i was in a college dorm room. Not the hotels fault, I just did not understand that green means you are on your own. I was stealing towels from the pool.
